I'm Trying

Written very quickly during a soundcheck at their last gig in Stockholm this song was

quickly added to the upcoming album and is it's first single. Apparently Jason was checking out a new amp with a riff he came up with on the spot. The band joined in and the song fell into place within minutes.

Stockholm

Famous For The Wrong Reason

Many people automatically think of the completely non-existent phenomenon known as the ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ when they think of this city but they’re all completely wrong and should just stop all that and grow up. It’s really known as the city where The Great Palaces Of Europe wrote their massive hit single ‘I’m Trying’ during a sound check before a concert they held there. Any other reference is, quite frankly, just silly and immature.

I Was Hoping This Love Could Be You

What started out as a drunken party at Cablecar's house turned into a prank where Jason woke up on a shipping vessel, the S.S. Carp, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. After calming down he decided to meditate on his life during the three week voyage and he wrote this song.

The Profound Poetry Of Bernard S. Priklybowel

The Legend Of The S.S. Carp

Some men seek the yonder shores

Wherein their dreams do lie

Some men seize their fate with zeal

And make their fears all die

They set their sails in frantic winds

And surge through doubt and shame

And cast aside the things they made

Their hopes, their homes, their names

They board the mighty SS Carp

Her lines so sleek and strong

Her steel bow so thick and wide

Her hold so deep and long

She’ll never be the kind of ship

That men place in a bottle

For she’s the mortal enemy

Of the Axolotl

Throw Your Love Around

Recorded on the back of the tour bus during their last Northern European tour this little ditty finds Milena blissed out in her typical hippy dippy universe giving out the message of love that her fans go ape shit over. This impossibly infectious melody is always a highlight at their concerts.

You Fooled Me

It's had over 37 million downloads and put The Great Palaces Of Europe on the map. Milena Hokito's heartfelt vocal delivery of a brazen pop song grabbed the attention of, well, everybody when it was first released twelve years ago. The band absolutely rocks throughout this classic.

The Milena

Milena Hokito

Milena Hokito, who needs no introduction, is definitely a fan favourite. In fact many people have often wondered why Milena hasn't gone solo. When the band’s first number one song, ‘You Fooled Me’, first broke many people thought the voice they heard was a solo artist. A very good solo artist. When the band followed up with hit after hit it became apparent that The Great Palaces Of Europe were a diverse group of hit makers and that she was part of a much bigger thing. She's known as 'The Milena' to her devoted followers and, to them, she can do no wrong. "I'm not interested in ever leaving The Great Palaces Of Europe. Like, ever." said Milena to renowned music journalist Svend McQuigley in a recent interview. "Why would I? We tour the world, our music is fucking awesome and I love all the members of the band. They're my best friends. They're family. Besides the music business is full of creeps who would love nothing better than to destroy the good vibes of a group just to make a few more bucks. They're missing the point. Music is about love, not money. The music business can fuck right off". Milena is a Saggitarian, her favourite colour is purple and she loves pistachio ice cream. And leather jackets. And hand carved bass guitars. Especially ones made from oak trees hit by lightning. On Mount Fuji.

Himari Hokito

It would be almost impossible to mention Milena Hokito, who needs no introduction, without mentioning her teenage cousin, Himari Hokito (some fans have tried to start a trend by calling her ‘The Himari’ which is really stupid and immature). Himari often accompanies the band on tour and jumps in to play keyboards or even bass guitar when her cousin takes lead vocals. Although not an official member of The Great Palaces Of Europe she is still considered one of the family by all of the members of the band. Milena and Himari have been inseparable since Himari's parents, Milena's Aunt Aiya and Uncle Isamu, died in a mysterious carp fishing incident seven years ago. Their bodies have never been recovered.
